It’s safe to say that the entire wedding celebration process is filled with various traditions, right? And while some of these traditions aren’t as prevalent in today’s day and age, there are certainly plenty others that we still see at countless weddings. As we often do here on the blog, we enjoy taking inside looks at different stages in the wedding process. From those moments right after your engagement all the way through the final send-off on your big day, there’s certainly no shortage of topics to discuss.
In today’s blog post, we’ll be diving deeper into something that will undoubtedly be a hit at your wedding and that happens to be the sweets! Going back to the statement we made at the start of this blog, the wedding cake is the perfect example of one with a long history behind it. Furthermore, there are plenty of other traditions tied to it as well, such as couples freezing the top tier of their wedding cake and eating it a year later on their first anniversary together. However, over time, it’s evident that some couples have opted to stray away from the traditional white wedding cake and go with something unique! That could be in the form of a different styled cake, dessert table of other treats, or even a mixture of both. Today, we’ll provide you with a breakdown highlighting some of the benefits associated with each. Truth be told though, it’s tough to go wrong with any of the possibilities for dessert!

Why Go With Wedding Cake?
Considering the multi-tier wedding cake is still had at the majority of weddings, we’re going to start off with that. The most obvious reason why you should have a wedding cake at your celebration is because of tradition and the underlying meaning that it holds. To sum it up, there are more than a few traditions associated with wedding cakes. Sharing it with your loved ones in attendance, saving the top tier for your one-year anniversary, having a groom’s cake and so on. It’s become a signature piece that many people simply associate with weddings. After all, when you attend a wedding as a guest, I’m going to guess that you likely expect to enjoy a slice of wedding cake at some point.
So Many Styles and Designs – Tradition is obviously one of the main reasons why couples opt to incorporate a wedding cake into their celebration, but it’s far from the only reason. With so many talented cake creators nowadays, you’ll be amazed by the various decisions you’ll have to make when finalizing your wedding cake. Gone are the days of the simple white wedding cake. You can change the shape of the cake. You can choose the height, how many tiers it is composed of, whether or not to include any added details and so on. And of course, there’s also the flavors and icing that will definitely be fun to test out when you’re sampling different options.
Include the Groom’s Cake Too – While on the topic of wedding cake, we can even take it one step further and also discuss the groom’s cake as well. While the groom’s cake tradition isn’t as old as the regular wedding cake, there’s no doubt that it is still a popular option for couples tying the knot. Simply put, this is a great way to allow the groom’s interests or hobbies to be on full display. Maybe that be his favorite sports team, alma mater or anything else that he enjoys to do!
Dessert Table
While traditional wedding cakes (even if they have a different style or design) are still had at the majority of weddings, that’s not to say that it’s a strict requirement. Remember, it’s your special day and if neither of you are too interested in having one, then that’s perfectly fine! Having said all of that, a possible alternative is to have a dessert table. Just like we discussed with wedding cakes, a dessert table also presents couples with plenty of options to pick from as well.
Smaller Cake Surrounded by Desserts – Even if a particular couple isn’t a huge fan of cake, they can still include it, while not having it be the only dessert available. In these situations, you could opt for a smaller cake (possibly just a single-tier) and surround it with various other desserts. The cake might be something rather simple in these situations, whereas the couple could spend a little more time perfecting their other dessert selections! For those that aren’t cake lovers, but want the best of both worlds, this is a great option!
Unlimited Possibilities – When it comes to dessert tables, there’s definitely no harm in going with a variety of treats for guests to pick from. Cookies, cupcakes, donuts, ice cream, you name it! If you know of a quality bakery in your area, we recommend starting with that and see what options they can offer. Aside from the delicious desserts themselves, you can also let your creative juices flow in terms of how they’re all displayed. This can be another great opportunity to tie everything back to your theme or color palette for the overall celebration. Dessert tables are becoming more and more popular in today’s world, so if you’re needing some ideas, take a look around Pinterest and start saving your favorites to share with the bakery.
How About a Late Night Snack?
Before we wrap up this week’s blog, we felt there was one more item worth talking about while on the topic of tasty treats! After you and your guests have enjoyed a full evening on the dance floor, it’s safe to say everyone could use a little something to eat, right? This is what we like to call a “Late Night Snack!” While these certainly aren’t at every single wedding, there’s no denying that everyone will enjoy them! And just like we mentioned with the desserts above, you’ll have more than a few options to choose from as well! Being in Texas, Whataburger is obviously always a fan favorite! Pizza is another popular one too! And for those of you with a bit of a sweet tooth, you could even revisit a dessert item.
