While the wedding industry has more than a few traditions which have truly withstood the test of time, there’s no denying the presence of trends that occasionally rise and fall in popularity over the years! The combination of the two is definitely what makes each and every wedding celebration so amazing. For those familiar with our wedding blog, you likely know that we tend to cover a wide range of wedding-related topics intended to help engaged couples as they plan their big day. Whether that be advice on building your dream team of wedding vendors, inside looks at past weddings held at Madera Estates or anything else, it’s all about making the entire wedding process as seamless as possible, while also creating the wedding of your dreams!

In this week’s blog post, we’re going to discuss a few specific ideas that you may want to consider implementing into your own wedding. There will be a special twist to this topic though! With the oldest members of Gen Z being born in 1997 and turning 27 this year, we’re going to start seeing more and more Gen Z couples tying the knot going forward. Having said that, we’ll not only just focus this blog post on ideas for your wedding day, but in particular, ones that may be appealing for a Gen Z wedding!

So…are you planning on tying the knot in the near future and also happen to fall in the Gen Z age range? Well, here are some ideas you may want to consider. Truth be told, many of these wedding trends are so awesome that we wouldn’t be surprised if other generations take a liking to them too!

Mismatched Bridesmaids Dresses

Traditionally speaking, many people are accustomed to seeing all of the bridesmaids in the same dress (or at least the same color palette) for a wedding. While that is still very common, it’s safe to say more and more couples are opting to add a creative touch to this wedding tradition. With this, I’m referring to the rise in Gen Z couples choosing mismatched or differing styles for their bridal party’s dresses. Granted, there are definitely a few different ways in which you can approach this and it may even take a little planning to ensure everything aligns with what you have envisioned. Nonetheless though, mismatched bridesmaids dresses are a growing trend in the wedding world. What are some of the possibilities with this?

Different Style. Same Color. First off, you could instruct each of your bridesmaids to stick with a specific color, but give them the flexibility to choose the style of dress. This will ensure everyone feels comfortable with what they’ll be wearing and the dress colors remain consistent, while adding some variances at the same time.

Same Style. Different Colors. On the other hand, you could also opt for everyone to maintain the same dress style, but choose different colors. Whether that means different shades of the same color, choosing ones within the same color group or even tying them into your theme (such as a fall wedding, so only fall colors), there are a number of things you can do here! The different colors can definitely create some stunning photos, by the way!

To sum it up, there are no set in stone rules for bridesmaids dresses and we’re noticing Gen Z couples understanding this as they get creative with their bridesmaids dress selections!

Unique Wedding Day Timelines

Would you agree that wedding days have traditionally followed a similar timeline or at least, just about the same order of events? With the rehearsal dinner taking place the night before, the wedding day usually follows in an order like this: getting ready moments, ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, final send-off. Pretty straightforward, right? And as we mentioned above, this is likely still the most common timeline that we come across. However, it’s also safe to say some Gen Z couples are doing things a little differently nowadays!

With this, one unique wedding day timeline that you may consider for your big day is a reverse wedding. Have you ever attended a reverse wedding before? If not, we’ll provide you with a quick overview of what this entails here. As its name suggests, a reverse wedding simply flips a traditional wedding day timeline. Rather than having the ceremony precede the reception, it’s the complete opposite. You’ll likely still get glammed up at the very start and take many of your photos (wedding party, family and photos of just the couple), as well as do your first look or first touch (if you choose to do so), before either the reception or ceremony. After that though, a cocktail hour will likely be next, followed by the reception and then you’ll close out the night with the ceremony! If you’re looking for a unique component to add to your Gen Z wedding, this may be the perfect possibility.

All About the Experience

There are so many ways in which you can make your wedding perfect for you and your partner. We’ve already highlighted two ways how Gen Z couples are designing their weddings in a way that’s slightly different from traditional practices. To add to this though, one thing that definitely has piqued the interest of many Gen Z couples is the desire to create a truly memorable experience for everyone in attendance. As you can likely guess, this can mean a number of different things and likely changes based on the couple tying the knot.

One area where you can truly create an unforgettable experience for not only you and your partner, but also all of your loved ones attending as guests, is with the wedding reception. This is where you’ll be dancing the night away and celebrating the special day, right?! In addition to several of the traditional items (like first dances and toasts), what else might this entail? Firework displays are obviously something that everyone always enjoys and continue to be a popular addition. Given that Gen Z couples grew up in the digital age, they’re going to instinctively be thinking of ways to incorporate technology into various aspects. Think of things like the latest and greatest in photo booths for this or even wedding hashtags on social media. Both are fun items that’ll add to the party! While it doesn’t pertain to the ceremony or reception specifically, there’s no denying that technology will also play a role in the planning process too!

In the end, Gen Z couples are becoming increasingly focused on creating a one-of-a-kind experience for their big day and there are no shortage of ways to make this a reality!
