What is The Knot Real Weddings Study?

The Knot Real Weddings Study is a report that surveyed over 10,000 US couples that had gotten married in 2025. Whether it be discussing trends in the wedding world, detailing how different wedding-related stats have changed year-to-year, reviewing the most popular vendors booked by couples, or plenty of other factors, this report really does provide a full picture of the wedding industry. If you get a chance, it is definitely worth the read.

Now…let’s discuss a few things we found interesting about this study:

Takeaway #1 from The Knot Real Weddings Study: Number of Vendors Hired

One thing that’s a consistent topic of discussion on our wedding blog is the important roles wedding vendors serve. After all, it’s not difficult to think about the many different wedding pros that you’ll want to hire for your big day. Photographer, caterer, florist, DJ, the list goes on! In The Knot Real Weddings Study, they found the average number of vendors hired by couples was 13. This shows how important it is to find the right vendors for your big day, as well as the time it could potentially take to build out this dream team.

One final stat we wanted to highlight was that 37% of couples “found the process of finding wedding vendors challenging” (page 11 in the report). Especially in larger markets (like Houston), you’ll quickly notice there are more than a few potential vendors out there to consider. Browsing through those possibilities, scheduling meetings and so on can quickly become a challenge. Pro tip: To ensure this doesn’t become a headache, check out venues that offer customizable all-inclusive packages.

Takeaway #2 from The Knot Real Weddings Study: Popularity of First Look’s

For those of you who have checked out some of past wedding recap blog posts, you likely recall seeing more than a few first look moments. These are undoubtedly becoming more and more popular, thanks to a number of advantages they provide. According to The Knot Real Weddings Study (page 12), “One in two couples choose to have a “first look” before the ceremony, carving out a private moment to connect (and calm nerves) before the festivities begin.”

As we’ve mentioned on numerous occasions, the ability for a first look to calm any pre-ceremony nerves is a major reason for its popularity. In addition to that, it can add some time flexibility to capture formal photos before the ceremony to ensure you don’t feel too rushed in-between the ceremony and reception. Not to mention, you can also utilize this time to share a few words with your soon-to-be spouse and it results in absolutely precious photos too!

Takeaway #3 from The Knot Real Weddings Study: Engagement Season

Here at Madera Estates, we never get tired of hearing each couple’s love story and how their engagement took place! The proposal is simply such an important part of the entire wedding process. One section of The Knot Real Weddings Study focused solely on the proposal. As you may or may not know, engagement season typically runs from Thanksgiving through Valentine’s Day and according to The Knot’s report (page 5), “The most popular month to get engaged continues to be December, with Christmas Day being the top day of the year, followed by Christmas Eve and Valentine’s Day!”

While this isn’t technically new information to us, it does reaffirm the fact that the time in which engagement season takes place likely isn’t changing any time soon!

Takeaway #4 from The Knot Real Weddings Study: What Matters Most to Couples

Being a wedding venue that’s worked with hundreds of engaged couples, our number one goal has been (and will continue to be) helping our couples create their dream wedding day. Down to each individual detail, we want to make sure everything is exactly as you’ve imagined it! Whatever matters to you should also matter to your vendor team, right? On page 7 of The Knot Real Weddings Study, couples said the most important thing to them was ensuring “guests are well taken care of and have a good time.”

This directly correlates with what we’ve personally seen as more and more couples place an emphasis on creating an awesome experience for everyone in-attendance. From the memorable ceremony to the fun-filled reception, there are plenty of possibilities at your disposal to make this happen!

Takeaway #5 from The Knot Real Weddings Study: AI and All Things Related to Tech

As can be said about countless other industries, technology has impacted the wedding world in more ways than one. Even if you just look at where things were 5 years ago, there are numerous noticeable examples of technology changing the way wedding planning goes. Not to mention, with more and more Gen Z couples tying the knot, we don’t see this trend changing either!

On page 8 of The Knot Real Weddings Study, they do a great job of going into more detail on this by stating: “By the end of 2025, roughly 36% of engaged couples were using AI for wedding planning, nearly doubling the rate seen back in February (~20%). Compared with 2023, when adoption was under 10%, this represents a +225% increase in usage.” Considering you can use AI for so many different facets of wedding planning, it’s no surprise how this could streamline tasks that may have previously been more time-consuming. Plus…it can be an excellent way to formulate ideas and inspiration too! All in all, utilizing new forms of technology is nothing new in 2026, but with the rise in AI, there are simply so many more resources available for use.
