Without a doubt, the wedding world is filled with so many traditions and several of these traditions are still widely popular nowadays too! Some of these traditional wedding items include not seeing your spouse on the wedding day until the walk down the aisle, the beautiful white wedding cake, being surrounded by your loved ones for a final send-off and so on. However, as you can probably guess, these traditions are not strict guidelines that every couple must follow for their own wedding celebration. As a wedding venue, we’ve witnessed countless weddings that have gone away from these traditional practices and can safely say that each of the weddings were still absolutely amazing!
For those that have checked out some of our previous blog posts, you may know that we always enjoy providing engaged couples with tips for planning their own big day. No matter what stage you’re at in the planning process, we want to make sure your entire wedding planning experience is as stress-free as possible (while also creating the wedding of your dreams). In this week’s blog post, we’re going to be taking a look at a few ways in which you can add a unique touch to your wedding celebration. With it being your special day, you are allowed to craft every single detail just as you have envisioned it. Whether that be utilizing all of the traditional elements, going with some of the new trendy ideas that have become popular or a mixture of the two, it’s entirely up to you!
Wedding Cake Possibilities
One of the oldest wedding traditions is arguably the serving of wedding cake at a couple’s reception. Furthermore, the tradition of freezing the top layer of your wedding cake and enjoying it on your first anniversary is one that many are familiar with as well! Nonetheless, there’s no denying that the wedding cake tradition is one that has withstood the test of time. However, the reason it’s found a spot in this list is because talented cake creators nowadays have truly let their skills shine, as wedding cakes today are not only delicious, but could even be described as a work of art! Having seen numerous wedding cakes over the years, we can confidently say the possibilities are seemingly endless.
If you want to add a unique touch to your wedding cake, one possibility is to connect it to the theme you’ve selected for the celebration. We’ve seen this occur at several previous weddings at Madera Estates, including a one-of-a-kind cake that matched the couple’s “Til Death Do Us Part” theme! In any case, with wedding cakes nowadays, you can pick from a number of different styles, added-decor items, colors, and so much more!
While we’re on the topic of desserts though, another item that happens to be a tradition, yet also will allow you to add in some creativity, is the groom’s cake. Whether you design this around the groom’s favorite sports team, alma mater or any other interests/hobbies that he may have, this is a great example of a way in which you can make your wedding day unique!
Fun and Exciting Wedding Receptions
In the section above, we highlighted how the impressive talents of wedding cake creators in today’s world have allowed for a plethora of possibilities for sweets served on your wedding day! Well, going hand-in-hand with this, there’s no doubt that other wedding professionals have utilized their creativity to create a wide array of possibilities for entertainment components to add to your wedding reception! Luckily, our team at Madera Estates has seen more than a few unique ideas over the years and are happy to share a few of our favorites.
If you’re looking for a tangible piece of art that will be tough to match, you might consider hiring a live wedding painter. Throughout your wedding day, they can be painting a portrait of a particular scene that you’ve chosen. Your guests can take a peek at the progress throughout the evening and we’re sure the finished product will be something that you’ll hold close to your heart! How about having alpacas attend your wedding reception? This is another cool element that we’ve seen on a few occasions and can safely say they result in the most precious photos! Looking to add a magical touch to your “Best Day Ever?” How about having a firework display? No matter if it takes place shortly after the ceremony or sometime during the reception, there’s no doubt that a firework display will add even more excitement to your special day! Want to treat your guests to something special after a fun night of dancing and celebrating your “I Do’s?” Have you considered having a late night snack delivered to the venue at some point during the reception? Whether it be a Texas-favorite Whataburger, some pizza or another dessert, late night snacks are always a hit at wedding receptions! Speaking of a late night snack, if you saw the blog post thumbnail up above, you’ll see a s’mores bar from one of our previous weddings!
In the end, with so many talented professionals in the wedding industry nowadays, you can use your imagination to create a memorable wedding reception! If you ever need some ideas, be sure to check out our Instagram page HERE where we routinely post photos from weddings held at our venue!
Share a Special Moment Before the Ceremony
In the opening paragraph, we mentioned how traditionally, the couple first sees each other (on their wedding day) during the walk down the aisle. If you’ve recently had a friend or family member tie the knot, you may know that there are alternatives to this traditional approach that have become quite popular. With this, I’m referencing a first look or a first touch. Both of these always create an unforgettable experience for the couple and also can be a great way to calm some pre-ceremony nerves. Nonetheless, we’re listing it here because this special moment before the ceremony gets underway could be a perfect time to exchange a letter or gift with your soon-to-be spouse. It’ll certainly be something you’ll never forget and can be the perfect time to spend a few minutes together in the early stages of the wedding day itself.
As we near the end of this blog post, I did want to mention that if you would still like to keep the traditional aspect of first seeing your partner on the walk down the aisle, then the first touch would allow for that (while also giving you the opportunity to have this special moment before the ceremony). All in all, the decision is up to you and your partner, but it never hurts to have a few ideas to pick from, right?!
