Should You Have a First Look?

When you’re in the process of crafting every single detail of your “Best Day Ever,” one component that will inevitably come into play is the overall wedding day schedule. As you go from those memorable getting ready moments all the way through the final send-off, it certainly helps to have an experienced coordinator that can help steer you in the right direction and ensure everything flows seamlessly. After all, the last thing you want to experience on your special day is stress and feeling like you don’t have enough time to truly take it all in!

Here at Madera Estates, one thing that our team has always emphasized is the idea of creating a “stress-free” wedding planning experience. Whether that be in relation to the initial venue tour, the months leading up to your big day or anything else wedding-related, we’re here to help ensure you don’t have any stress along the way.

Having said all of that, we can now mention the topic of this week’s blog post. One potential component of a wedding celebration that will have an impact on planning your wedding day schedule is a first look. While first looks are an optional element and not all couples choose to incorporate them into their wedding day festivities, there is a lot to like about them! Over the course of this week’s blog post, we’ll discuss a few of these reasons as to why first looks have continued to become more and more popular for couples tying the knot.

Time Flexibility

Since we hinted at the idea of your wedding schedule on a few occasions already, we’ll start off with a benefit that’s directly related to your wedding day timeline. With a first look being completed before the ceremony, couples have the opportunity to not only capture some precious photos from the first look itself, but also take many other formal pictures too if they would like. Whether that be with family members, the wedding party, just of the couple or anyone else, it will undoubtedly free up some time in-between the ceremony and reception.

This extra time flexibility will allow you to possibly mingle with guests during the cocktail hour, enjoy a glass of champagne with the wedding party or even (depending on the time) capture a stunning golden hour photo. All in all, this time flexibility for your wedding day schedule can be a huge plus!

Calm Some Pre-Ceremony Nerves

Another major advantage of having a first look before your wedding ceremony is the ability for this special moment to calm some nerves before you say your “I Do’s.” Seeing your spouse-to-be all dressed up before the ceremony will certainly be a moment you’ll never forget and getting to spend a few minutes with them during a first look can be an excellent way to relieve some of these nerves.

Want to still have this special moment with your soon-to-be spouse, but prefer to first see them on the walk down the aisle during the ceremony? If so, you may want to consider going with a first touch. This can also help calm some nerves, will create adorable wedding memories and you can even share a letter or gift with your partner this time. All in all, first touches have also gradually become more and more popular too!

Precious Photos

Without a doubt, one of many important decisions that you make during the wedding planning process will involve building your wedding vendor dream team. While there are a number of vendors you’ll have to hire, one that you’ll likely find yourself hiring early in the process will be your wedding photographer. I’m sure everyone would agree that you’re going to want an experienced photographer capable of capturing each moment just right.

With that all being said, it should come as no surprise that our next benefit of a first look is the precious photos that come from this special moment. There will obviously be plenty of emotion between you and your partner. Not to mention, you can also work with your coordinator at the wedding venue to pick out your favorite backdrop for the first look.

Should You Have a First Look?

Do you have any friends or family members who have recently tied the knot? If so and they had a first look, it may be worth it to ask them about their experiences. While every couple will have their own preferences, first looks have become a popular topic in the wedding world. One reason why some couples consider not having a first look is because they’re worried it will take away some of the emotion during the ceremony itself. From our personal experiences, we can safely say there will still be plenty of emotion when you see your spouse-to-be on the walk down the aisle. However, as alluded to above, you can also consider a first touch if you would like to keep that traditional element for the actual ceremony.

Long story short, there’s no perfect answer to the question of whether or not you should have a first look at your wedding celebration. We’ve highlighted a few of the benefits on this week’s blog post, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to make sense for every couple tying the knot. In the end, it’s one of many decisions that you’ll find yourself making throughout the wedding planning process. No matter which set-up you choose, it’s also a decision that you can truly not go wrong with! Whether it be a first look, first touch or first seeing your partner on the walk down the aisle, they all will create a magical moment that you’ll never forget!
