Welcome back to the blog! In this post, we’re going to discuss all the awesome reasons why you SHOULD get married on Halloween!
Would you get married on October 31st? If you answered “no”, here’s why you should think twice.
It’s no secret that October is a popular month for wedding celebrations. The weather is beautiful this time of year and the fall color palette is appealing for many couples! It’s also no surprise that the most popular day of the week to wed is on a Saturday. After all, this is likely the most convenient day for all of your guests.
Did you know, in 2020, Halloween falls on a Saturday? We want to encourage engaged couples to embrace this opportunity rather than eliminate this date as a possible day to get hitched! Getting married on October 31st doesn’t mean you can’t host an elegant event. In fact, it gives you the opportunity to incorporate details that will make your celebration one of a kind and memorable! Hopefully, by the end of this blog post, you’ll see just how awesome a Halloween wedding can be.
Rich & Moody Decor Options
When you think about Halloween, you likely have pumpkins in mind. The truth is that there are so many ways you can get creative with Halloween wedding decor! You’re not just limited to the spooky craft section at Hobby Lobby. The key to hosting a beautiful themed wedding is to be selective by incorporating hints of tasteful details throughout the ceremony and reception space. For a Halloween wedding, we recommend having lots of candlelight, moody florals and incorporating deep tones throughout.
Endless Little Details
A theme wedding allows you to incorporate so many fun details! Set the mood early by sending your guests invitations that state “Til’ Death Do Us Part”. For the ceremony, line the aisle with candles in glass votives and dark red rose petals. A good florist will jump at the chance to create arrangements that have rich jewel tones. For the reception, decorate the space with somber colors and lots of candlelight! You might even want to incorporate spider napkin rings and black wine glasses! One thing’s for sure, if you get married on Halloween, you can incorporate some clever details!
Creative & Spooky Catering
A signature cocktail is a great way to transition your guests from the ceremony to the reception space. There are seemingly endless cocktail recipes on Pinterest including The Witches Brew, Vampire’s Catch and even a Pumpkin Pie Martini! Yum!
Consider serving passed appetizers such as mummies (pigs in a blanket) and spooky deviled eggs (use olives to create the spider). For dinner, you can serve a warm pumpkin soup along with an entree of slow-roasted prime rib, garlic whipped potatoes and an arugula salad with walnut and goat cheese crumbles.
When it comes to dessert, you have tons of options! Maybe you want a candy station that can also double as a gift favors for your guests. Or you can serve caramel covered candy apples! One thing’s for sure, red velvet would be the perfect Halloween wedding cake flavor!
Tons Of Favor Options For Your Guests
If you want to go down a rabbit hole of online shopping, Google “Halloween Wedding Favors”. From there you’ll find everything from shot glasses that read “‘Til Death Do Us Party”, skull bottle openers, and can koozies that proclaim “Here For The Boos”. Alternatively, we’ve seen couples have a photo booth instead of favors. You can fill the photobooth with Halloween themed props including witches hats, masks and more! Guests will love having a photo keepsake from your wedding. Not to mention, the photo is way less likely to end up in the trash. If you do opt for the photo booth, definitely buy the props a year before the event when they are on sale!
Alternative Fashion
Have you been dying to rock a black wedding gown? Or maybe you want to sport a bold burgundy lip color? This is your time to shine! More and more often we’re seeing couples transition from traditional wedding attire. So if a white gown isn’t your cup of tea, rock it out with something you love!
When it comes to the rest of the bridal party, have them wear a deep color such as burgundy, plum or even black! Bridesmaids can hold bouquets with black and burgundy silk ribbons. Or, they can hold something entirely different such as lanterns or even fur muffs!
For the fellas, you can hide little details in their boutonnieres such as miniature bats, spiders or skulls! They’d also enjoy some festive Frankenstein stocks!
Final Note: Keep It Classy
We’re not going to sugar coat it. There’s a fine line between tacky and tastefully creative. Hosting a themed wedding is exciting, but it’s important to avoid cheap nick-nacks! Don’t scare your guests away by raiding the Halloween section at Party City. If you’re overwhelmed with where to start, we highly recommend consulting a wedding coordinator.
