Over the years we’ve helped hundreds of couples host a fun-filled and picture-perfect wedding day! During our time in the wedding industry, we’ve learned about a lot in regards to planning a perfect event. Without further ado, here are the top wedding regrets that couples often face!
1). An Unorganized Timeline
One of the quickest ways to stress yourself out on your wedding day is by having an unorganized timeline or no timeline at all! Weddings take a lot of preparations. Not to mention, there are several logistics that you’ll need to consider. All your guests, wedding party members, and vendors need to be on the same page! Create a timeline that gives you a generous about of time for each aspect of your wedding day. From getting ready to the first look, taking photos, and more, you need to set a clear and realistic timeline for all the events throughout the day. This will keep the day running smoothly and will make everyone feel more at ease.
2). Inviting Guests You Don’t Want To
It’s your day! Invite the guests that you want to! It’s important to surround yourself with those you love most. Invite guests that are most important to you and who will lift your spirits throughout the day. Don’t feel obligated to invite guests if you don’t want them to be there. If your parents or other relatives are pressuring you to invite guests that you don’t want to, don’t be afraid to speak up!
3). Picking The Wrong Wedding Party
Your wedding party is one of the most important decisions you’ll make throughout the wedding planning process! After all, these people will be with you throughout the entire day. Be sure to pick people who will make you feel your best! Who are the people you have the most fun with? Don’t feel obligated to ask someone to be in your wedding party just because you were in theirs. Likewise, don’t invite anyone to be in your wedding party if you don’t want them to be! Plain and simple.
4). Not Asking For Help
You can’t expect to do everything yourself. If a wedding planner or day-of coordinator is not in the cards, ask your friends and family for help! Many couples regret trying to juggle it all leading up to the wedding day and even on the day itself. Asking for help, and being clear about what you want, will ensure that you have a stress-free wedding day!
5). Hiring An Amature Photographer
Good photographers are not cheap. Expect to pay anywhere from $2,000 to $5,000 and beyond for an awesome photography team. Your wedding day only happens once, and you want to make sure that every detail is captured beautifully! Many couples regret not splurging on an awesome photographer. Not only are photographers responsible for taking pictures, but they also control the timeline of your event.
PRO TIP: If you’re in the process of comparing photographers, look closely at their night photography capability. Photos in the dark are hardest to capture without looking grainy or out of focus. If a photographer has a substantial night photography portfolio, you can rest assured that they’ll be able to take beautiful photos on the day of your wedding. Additionally, make sure your photographer takes an array of photo styles. You’re going to want a mix of wide shots and close-up portrait photos!
6). Not Having A Videographer
Probably one of the biggest regrets couples have is not hiring a videographer. Wedding photographers are considered an essential part of the wedding day experience, yet wedding videographers often get overlooked. A wedding video isn’t always cheap, but you’ll never regret forking out the extra dough on a beautiful wedding video! Wedding videos are awesome keepsakes that will be cherished for years to come. You’ll love looking back and reliving your big day for years to come! Not to mention, wedding videos are a great family heirloom!
7). Sweating The Small Stuff
Let’s face it, guests don’t really care about the color of the napkins, the seating chart, or even the favors! Don’t stress yourself out over the little stuff. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, delegate these smaller responsibilities to your wedding party or your family members.
8). Overcomplicating The Food
Y’all, the food doesn’t have to be over complicated! Hire an awesome catering company and pick a crowd pleaser meal. Buffets with salad, a chicken dish, green beans, and rolls can usually leave everyone full and happy.
9). Not Splurging On The Bar
An open bar can make or break your reception! Cash bars are better than none, but we highly recommend investing in an open bar. With an open bar, your guests will have more fun and are likely to party later into the evening! If you’re trying to save some cash, consider just serving beer and wine. Trust us, your guests would much prefer an open bar than some overpriced favors that will end up in the garbage.
10). Not Hitting The Dance Floor
If you want your wedding reception to be poppin’ you need an awesome DJ! As a wedding vendor, we often notice that the best wedding receptions have great dance parties! If you’re the bride or groom, make sure you’re on the dance floor all night long! If you’re having a good time, guests will too! Your guests will match your energy. If the newlyweds aren’t dancing, the rest of your guests are likely to wonder elsewhere too.
11). Running Short On Time
Wedding days fly by in the blink of an eye! If you can afford to pay for an extra hour of reception time, go for it! You’ll never regret having an extra hour to dance the night away with those you love most!
12). Picking The Wrong Venue
Before you sign a contract with a venue, make sure that they offer everything you will need and more! The best wedding venues have everything you need on-site. From a bridal suite to a groom’s lounge, ceremony space, and a reception hall, the best venues have it all! Being on-site, at the same place, all day will make your day less stressful.
