2021 Wedding Trends We’re Loving!

Do we even have to say it? 2020 was a heck of a year! Now that a new year is here, there are quite a few new wedding trends we’re noticing. From weekday celebrations to live streaming the event, color-coded wristbands, and more, there are several new traditions when it comes to tying the knot in 2021.

For those of you who are visiting our website for the first time, welcome to Madera Estates! We are a luxury Spanish and European-inspired wedding and event venue in Conroe, Texas. If you’re engaged, congratulations! We know how special this time is and we hope that your wedding day is everything you’ve dreamed of and more! In this blog post, we’re going to cover a few of our favorite 2021 wedding trends. If you would like to get more wedding planning tips and inspiration, click here to check out our other blog posts.

Weekday Weddings

The pandemic caused a rescheduling nightmare for the event industry. With this in mind, couples are being more open-minded about having weekday weddings. Having your wedding on a weekday can ensure you get the vendors you want, and you’re guaranteed to get a better deal!

Brunch Receptions

There’s no rule that says you need to have your reception in the evening! Brunch receptions are quickly becoming a popular choice for couples who want a unique wedding day experience. After all, who doesn’t love a waffle station and bottomless mimosas?

Outdoor Celebrations

Social distancing can be a little challenging indoors. For this reason, many engaged couples are planning outdoor weddings! Not only is the fresh air nice, but your guests will have a great time dancing the night away under the stars!

Evening Ceremonies

Evening ceremonies are incredibly romantic. By waiting until the sun sets, you can create a novel worthy scenery by lighting dozens of candles! If you’re having an outdoor ceremony, consider concluding it with a bang by arranging a surprise firework show after your first kiss as a married couple.

Formal Dinner Service

A formal plated dinner service is becoming increasingly popular in 2021, as they are a more sanitary alternative to a buffet. Not only is this a germ-free option, but your guests will love getting to sit at their table and relax as their food is delivered to them!

Live Streaming

If some guests can’t attend your wedding, consider live streaming the event! Assign someone to host a Zoom or go LIVE on Facebook. Not only with this be great for those that can’t make it, but you’ll love having the recordings to look back on!

Cocktails Before The Ceremony

Instead of waiting until the reception, cocktails are now being served before the ceremony! Open the bars before the “I dos” and host a mingling hour. Your guests will be happy sipping on your signature cocktail while you tie the knot!

Custom LED Lights

Want a cool backdrop for your head table, ceremony space, or a photo booth? Custom LED lights are very popular in 2021! From cute sayings to last names, there are tons of options to choose from. Our friends at Houston’s Kawaii Creations can help you light up your event!

Retro Color Palettes

Picking your wedding colors? From muted neutrals to blush, terracotta, dusty rose, shades of marsala, and hues of amber, retro color palettes are in! In addition, we’re seeing grooms with colored jackets which helps them stand out from the rest of the wedding party.

Over The Top Floral Backdrops

Want to “wow” your guests? Over-the-top floral backdrops are in! From the ceremony space to the sweetheart table, go big and bold with the floral design!

Dried Flowers Are Still In

Speaking of which, dried flowers are still in! From pampas grass to eucalyptus, palm spears, wildflowers, and more, dried flowers add dimension to traditional floral arrangements. If you don’t want to commit to a fully dried bouquet, have your florist add a few pieces to your arrangements to create a boho look.

Outdoor Mingling Areas

Some like to dance at weddings, others like to chat and catch up with old friends. Having outdoor mingling areas at weddings is a 2021 trend we’re loving! If your venue doesn’t offer outdoor furniture, collect some unique pieces from estate sales to create an affordable and eclectic look.

(Psst… We have outdoor mingling areas at Madera Estates!)

Coordinated Guest Dress Codes

Gone are the days of “black-tie optional” being the only attire note on invitations! If you have a theme or want your guests to wear certain colors, don’t hesitate to do so. Attire suggestions can make your event more fun and unique!

Wedding Cake Alternatives

It’s no secret that wedding cakes can cost a pretty penny. If cake isn’t your thing, go for a donut wall, cake pops, chocolate fondue, or even a dessert buffet. There are no rules on your wedding day!

Masks & Hand Sanitizer

Party favors are looking a little different in 2021. Lately, at weddings, we’ve seen masks and hand sanitizer offered to guests. By making sure your guests are comfortable, they will have a more enjoyable time and are likely to hang around longer.

Color-Coded Wristbands

Are you comfortable with hugs or are you socially distancing? Color-coded wristbands are a great way for your guests to express their comfort level. Let your guests choose between red, yellow, and green wristbands so that others know how to interact with them.

Humor… Lot’s Of It!

A prominent 2021 wedding trend is HUMOR! After a crazy wild ride of a year, it’s safe to say that we all learned how to relax and roll with the punches. If your wedding was rescheduled, consider sending out invitations that say “Let’s try this again”. Serve Corona beers at your reception with napkins that say “May this be the only Corona you ever get”. At the end of the day, laugh a little and enjoy the fact that you can host a wedding in 2021!
