From fancy cocktails to wardrobe recommendations, we hope you enjoy learning all about how to host an awesome summer wedding!

Think Resort-Chic

It’s no secret, a summer wedding means warm weather! Before buying bridesmaids dresses or putting a deposit down for tuxes, consider some non-traditional options. There are many tasteful and comfortable options for you and your bridal party. Consider linen khaki pants for the groomsmen with a breezy button-up shirt. For your maids, think flowy fabric! There are tons of elegant short dresses to choose from. This also gives your girls the chance to show off some fabulous shoes! When it comes to bridal gowns, keep it light! Tell your bridal consultant that you’re looking for something airy and they will lead you in the right direction.

As far as your guests are concerned, now’s the perfect time to encourage them to break out those gorgeous vacation pieces! You can note this in your invitations, or even make your wedding a fun tropical theme. From coasting in the Caribbean to a night in Maui, or even an evening in the heart of Barcelona, encourage your guests to participate with their best-themed attire. This will help keep them comfortable all night and add a fun element to your celebration!

Hair & Makeup Matter Too

The last thing any bride wants to worry about is a hair and makeup mishap. We highly suggest summer brides leave it to the professionals on their big day. Have a pre-wedding consultation with your hair & makeup artist. They will be able to make recommendations for a flawless sweat-proof bridal look! For makeup, you’ll likely be recommended a powder foundation application as well as some heavy-duty setting spray. For hair, consider half-up/half-down or updo styles. This will help keep you cool and keep your locks looking great well into the evening.

Consider A Twilight Outdoor Ceremony

If you’ve never attended a twilight ceremony, you’re seriously missing out! Twilight, sunset, or evening ceremonies are stunning! Without the worry of the hot sun, your guests will enjoy the romantic atmosphere that evening brings. The cooler temperature will keep you and your guests comfortable during your vow exchange. To take it a step further, incorporate candles or LED lanterns throughout the ceremony space. This will seriously elevate the ambiance of the ceremony! You can even conclude your ceremony with a gorgeous firework show.

Beat The Heat With Fun Favors!

Now’s your time to get creative! For favors, offer your guests decorative paper fans, sunglasses, or parasols. You can have your ushers offer these as they escort guests to their seats, or display them on a nearby table. These props will add a unique element to your ceremony, and it will help keep your guests comfortable while you exchange vows. If you’re getting married on the beach or near a body of water, consider offering sunscreen and insect repellant. You might even want to consider serving beverages before the ceremony gets started.

Serve Refreshing Beverages & Appetizers

Once the ceremony concludes, offer your guests a tasty signature beverage. Sparkling wines, mojitos, and margaritas are always a hit! For appetizers, fruit and veggies with some exotic cheeses pair nicely. Light hors d’oeuvres such as chilled cucumber, watermelon soup, gazpacho in a shooter, or shrimp cocktail are all great summer appetizer options. When in doubt, ask your caterer about light and fresh options!

Keep The Menu Light

Most of us want to take a nap after a feast. Don’t weigh down guests with heavy foods! Offering a lighter menu will encourage more people to hit the dance floor. Consider starting with an arugula and feta salad. A chicken entree with roasted vegetables is always a crowd-pleaser. For dessert, consider non-traditional sweets such as tangy tortes or frozen sherbert. If you want to serve wedding cake, summer gives you a great chance to offer unique flavors such as lemon, coconut, or even champagne! Or, as a fun alternative to a traditional wedding cake, surprise your guests with an ice cream truck!

Choose Flowers That Will Hold Up In The Heat

Be sure to ask your florist about heat-resistance flowers. After all, no one wants to have to worry about lifeless or wilting flowers on their wedding day. Chrysanthemums, Daisies, Carnations, and Succulents are very cooperative even in the heat of summer. Professional florists will be able to guide you in the right direction. They will be able to help you determine which flowers are both in-season and will hold up throughout the day.

Explore Indoor Photo Options

If you’re worried about a sweaty bridal party, consider taking some of your photos indoors. It might even be a good idea to plan on getting most of the photos done earlier in the day. If you’re okay with seeing you’re betrothed before the ceremony, a first look is a great idea! Not only will this help beat the heat, but you’ll also be able to get to your party a lot faster! Plus, getting your photos done before the ceremony will allow you to touch up your makeup before the walk down the aisle. In conclusion, in the event that temperatures are unbearably hot, have a few indoor locations picked out in advance.

Have A Temperature Controlled Space

If you’re getting married in the warmer months. It’s always a good idea to choose a venue that provides a temperature-controlled environment. Don’t misunderstand, outdoor weddings are incredibly beautiful! However, in the peak of summer, we recommend having a quick outdoor ceremony and transitioning indoors for the reception. Your guests will really appreciate the air conditioning!
